The rosary is a very beautiful, and a very powerful prayer given to us through our Lord Jesus Christ’s own blessed mother, the Virgin Mary. In a vision given to one of her saints on earth, hundreds of years ago, Mama Mary taught us how to say this special prayer.
This prayer is said to be one of our most powerful weapons against evil. It is also a very special way for us to meditate on the life of her Son, Jesus, in that the rosary includes Mysteries from the life of Jesus at the start of each decade prayed. Therefore, in praying the rosary we not only can meditate on the different parts of Jesus’ birth, life, death and resurrection, but we can also be assured that whatever prayer intention we pray for will be powerfully helped.

Praktek mendedikasikan bulan Mei kepada Bunda kita dipopulerkan oleh ensiklik rosario yang dikeluarkan oleh Paus Leo XII awal 1883 dan diakhiri tahun 1889, dimana Paus menulis 12 ensiklik tentang rosario dan 5 surat apostolik tentang rosario. Berikut ini keterangan dari Catholic Encyclopedia mengenai asal usul Bulan Mei sebagai bulan Maria :
“Awalnya dimulai dari seoarang Imam Yesuit di Roma, Romo Latomia dari college Serikat Yesuit di Roma, dimana ia bersumpah pada akhir abad 18 untuk menjadikan bulan mei sebagai [bulan] devosi kepada Bunda Maria untuk menetralkan imoralitas dan rasa kurang percaya terhadap agama [baca : Gereja Katolik] yang dilakukan oleh para muridnya. Pratek tersebut kemudian menyebar ke college Yesuit lainnya dan hampir ke setiap Gereja Katolik ritus Latin. Inilah awal mula Mei dijadikan devosi kepada Bunda Maria.” (Catholic Encyclopedia, “Special Devotions for Months”)
Namun ada juga yang beranggapan bahwa bulan Mei merupakan awal musim dimana terjadi kehidupan baru dan kesuburan (hal ini terjadi dalam budaya barat klasik). Ada juga tradisi kuno yang menghubungkan bulan Mei yang menandai kehidupan baru dengan bulan keibuan (motherhood). Hubungan inilah yang kemudian membuat orang kristen mengadopsi bulan Mei sebagai bulan Maria khususnya sebagai bulan Bunda Allah. Romo Hopkins tahun 1833 menulis puisi yang isinya (tidak diterjemahkan) :

MAY is Mary’s month, and I
Muse at that and wonder why:
Her feasts follow reason,
Dated due to season—
Candlemas, Lady Day;
But the Lady Month, May,
